Meet the Captain

Canal Life Outdoors, LLC is owned and operated by Captain Jamey Cursi. A life long fisherman and second generation Charter Captain, Jamey grew up fishing in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic regions of the US from Raritain Bay, NJ to Ocean City, MD and all points in between targeting everything from bottom fish to bigeye tuna. He has been a USCG Licensed Master since 2013, with many additional years spent working as a deckhand on charter and party boats.

In 2014 Captain Jamey relocated to Louisiana where he quickly learned and mastered the local fisheries.

When he isn’t fishing, Captain Jamey enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities including snow sports, hunting, camping and backpacking as well as making a mess in the kitchen. He is a 30 year fan of Drum and Bass music and a lifelong fan of the Grateful Dead.

OUR VESSEL

All of our charters are currently being run on a 2020 Bluewave 2800 Makaira. It’s hybrid design makes it the perfect “do everything” boat for South Louisiana’s waters. At 28’ in length with a 9’ beam she easily handles the choppy open waters of Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Borgne and the Gulf of Mexico. Her unique design incorporates raised casting decks without sacrificing deck space with full gunnel height for safety. Equipped with jackplates and drafting only 18 inches, she can still safely navigate our shallow marshes despite her large footprint. She is powered by twin 200 hp Suzuki outboards and equipped with dual Simrad multi function displays incorporating sonar, radar, and chart plotting technology. She is also equipped with a VHF radio and EPIRB for your safety.
